ABOUT US

We’re new to Cyber Space, but we’ve been around for some time.

Scotia Review is a Highland-based arts organisation, with an accent on Literature, but with strong roots in Music and the Visual Arts, and a will to go wherever the talent takes us.     Historically, Scotia Review has published occasional hard-copy volumes of new writing.  Currently, this is a very difficult market in which to operate, and – as an experiment - we have decided to use this web-site to post examples of new writing, visual art, music, photography, reviews, etc.

Caithness in Scotland is our home.  Often referred to as a ‘peripheral’ region of the UK, it is our not-so-humble contention that folk have forgotten that ‘periphery’ is a relative noun.  As far as we’re concerned, we’re at the centre of the Universe, and we know you are, too, wherever your computer.

We reckon the 21st Century calls for some re-orientation among the arts community in Scotland.  Centralisation is still the name of the game, albeit dressed up in the Emperor’s new suit, tailored impeccably in the New Labour cloth of Inclusion.  At this latitude, the threads fairly let in the draught, and frankly we’re shivering.

Currently Scotia Review has established a writing group, tutored by local poet/playwright George Gunn [See Winter Barley].  We hope to establish a modest Literary Festival in Caithness this autumn; and we also hope to publish the best of the writing and other material which appears on this site.

Scotia Review will be – at times - unashamedly political, but without the burden of allegiance to party politics.  If your art is strong enough, we will represent it, whatever your point-of-view.

Enjoy scanning our pages, and let us know what you think.  Better still, send us examples of your own work to editor@scotiareview.org
